Drywall, Plaster Repair and Insulation in Meridian Hills

Meridian Hills is a small town within Marion County, tucked between the North Meridian Street corridor and Spring Mill Road on the north side of Indianapolis. The housing is mostly mid-century and earlier, on large wooded lots, with a lot of masonry, real plaster, solid framing and interior detail that was not cheap when it was built.

Repairs in these houses are as much about matching as fixing. A patched plaster wall next to an original one shows immediately if the texture, thickness or plane is off. We feather and float wide, prime the repair separately, and check it under the same light the room actually gets before we call it finished.

Ceilings are the frequent problem. Old plaster loses its key over the lath and starts to sag or crack in a line. Sometimes it can be re-secured and skimmed. Sometimes the honest answer is that the ceiling needs to come down and go back as board. We tell you which, and why.

Most of our work here comes attached to a renovation: a kitchen opened up, a bath expanded, a sunroom rebuilt, or a third floor finished into usable space. New board meeting old plaster is the recurring detail, and it is where an average job gives itself away.

We shim to the existing plane, float the transition wide, and finish to the level the room's lighting requires. In rooms with sconces, tall windows or gloss trim paint, that usually means a level 5 skim rather than a standard level 4.
